With the IPL 7 just knocking at the door, it’s only natural that the IPL fans all over would be eager to gather fundas on the much relished T20 cricket event. Well, the 7th edition of this cash-rich tournament is about to start on April 16 with a match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. As UAE would be hosting the initial leg of the tournament, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium would play the host for the inaugural match. The tournament will finalize on June 1 at Wankhede Stadium.
Before delving further into IPL 7 facts, it should be mentioned that unlike the past season, this time Indian Premier League would be contested by 8 teams, rather than 9. The 8 participating teams and their captains are-
Mumbai Indians ( Rohit Sharma); Royal Challengers Bangalore ( Virat Kohli); Kolkata Knight Riders (Gautam Gmabhir); Rajasthan Royals ( Shane Watson) ; Chennai Super Kings ( M.S. Dhoni); Sunrisers Hyderabad ( Shikhar Dhawan); Delhi Daredevils ( Kevin Pietersen) and Kings XI Punjab (George Bailey).
The IPL 2014 had its auction in February this year. As many as 154 players were sold, of which 50 are overseas players. Among the players it was Kevin Pietersen who fetched the maximum bid and Yuvraj Singh received the optimum bid (14 crore INR) among all the players. Delhi Daredevils was the only franchise which retained none of their players before auction and thus had the best utilization of the Right to match facility. Three of the IPL 7 franchises retained 5 of their strong players before the auction.
The Indian Premier League 7 would start initially at UAE and 3 stadiums have been allotted here- Abu Dhabi (Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium), Dubai (Dubai International Cricket Stadium) and Sharjah (Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium). The 10 Indian venues are located across all the major cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Ranchi, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mohali.
Had the IPL 7 started in India, Wankhede Stadium, the homeground of defending champs MI would have hosted the inaugural match. But this time the opening IPL 2014 match would be hosted by Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and the tournament will unfold with a game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. The last UAE match is scheduled for April 30 at the same stadium between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The IPL 7 first match in India is between CSK & KKR on May 2 at JSCA International Cricket Stadium ( Ranchi). The last group match is on May 25 between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The final is on Wankhede Stadium on June 1.
The Indian Premier League 7 tickets are available online now and the spectators can purchase it directly from their home. The ticket rates for single matches at UAE are starting from AED20 (Abu Dhabi), AED30 (Dubai) and UED30 (Sharjah) while the double-header match ticket rates are AED30 (Abu Dhabi), AED50 (Dubai) & UED40 (Sharjah).
